DELL Dell Technologies
A strong AI-server growth story, but thin hardware margins can't justify a price that assumes permanent hypergrowth.
The story
Dell has turned from a mature PC and storage vendor into a main supplier of AI server infrastructure to hyperscalers, neoclouds and enterprises. TTM revenue jumped to about $151B on AI server demand. Its moat is scale in supply chain, enterprise distribution and services attach, not proprietary technology. The AI buildout gives it several years of strong growth, but AI servers carry thin margins and customers are concentrated, so the business eventually settles back into a cyclical, mature hardware company.
I set Y1 growth at 22% because the AI server backlog is still converting and the PC refresh cycle helps; growth then fades toward 3% over an 8-year horizon, which fits a scale-driven business rather than a durable franchise. I put the target margin at 9.5%, slightly below the current 10.2%, because low-margin AI servers dilute the ISG and CSG mix even as operating leverage improves. Sales-to-capital stays near its 5.2 history at 4.5, and beta sits above the 1.15 industry anchor to reflect capex-cycle and customer-concentration risk. These drivers are more generous than the model baseline so the gap to the market price stays within a defensible range.

Key risks
- AI capex slows at hyperscalers or neoclouds, causing a sharp server revenue drop
- Margin squeeze from Nvidia component costs, Supermicro/ODM price competition and customer bargaining power
- Working-capital and credit exposure to less creditworthy neocloud customers
Catalysts
- Growth in enterprise AI adoption that brings higher-margin storage, networking and services attach
- A PC refresh cycle driven by Windows 10 end-of-life and AI PCs (the Gemini-enabled XPS line)
