HONA Honeywell Aerospace
Quality aftermarket franchise, but price already assumes full margin recovery; wait for proof or a pullback.
The story
Honeywell Aerospace is a newly independent pure-play supplier of engines, APUs, avionics and flight controls, with a large installed base that generates a high-margin aftermarket annuity. Its moat comes from certification lock-in and decades-long platform positions. It is a mature franchise still growing with commercial aerospace recovery and defense budgets. Reported margins have fallen from about 26% to 18-19% because of spin-off costs, supply-chain inflation and a mix shift toward OE, and the market is pricing a sharp recovery.
I kept the drivers from my previous take because the facts have not materially changed. TTM margin of 19.5% is consistent with my view that margins can partly recover to 22% (not the old 26% peak) as spin-off costs roll off and aftermarket pricing holds. Y1 growth moves up slightly on backlog strength, and sales-to-capital is trimmed toward the observed 2.05 because the business is reinvesting in capacity.

Key risks
- Margin erosion persists from stranded standalone costs and OE mix, leaving margins stuck below 20%
- Commercial aerospace cycle downturn or OEM production cuts at Boeing/Airbus
- Defense budget pressure and fixed-price contract overruns
Catalysts
- Visible margin recovery in the first standalone reporting quarters
- Index inclusion flows and aftermarket pricing strength in upcoming guidance
